Conservative lawsuit against IRS falls far short
Fri Oct 24, 2014
The real scandal is that the original law for this category of tax exemption was that the applicant organization be a community league type group that worked "exclusively" for the good of the community (emphasis mine). The guidelines changed the wording to "primarily". I understand exclu …
Troubles at nuclear plant may hint at California's future
Wed Jul 4, 2012
Nuclear power by existing plants is inexpensive ONLY if you do not include the $billions that it will cost to remove the spent fuel rods to a permanent repository and to decommission the reactors. As it is now, each nuclear reactor is a radioactive waste dump.
One in three mortgage holders still underwater
Wed May 23, 2012
It was called the "sub-prime" mortgage crisis because the borrowers could not qualify for Fannie or Freddie loans. As noted in one post, the roots of this crisis go back at least 20 years.
First Thoughts: Is Bain fair game?
Mon May 21, 2012
John Kerry made use of his military service and that made it a subject of attack, fair or not. Mitt Romney has made use of his "business knowledge" from Bain Capital and that makes it a target.
Gay student: Catholic school should relent on Matthew Shepard scholarship
Tue May 8, 2012

Thu May 3, 2012
Hmmm...going into a recession, who cut government spending and raised taxes before? Oh, yes, I know...Herbert Hoover.
Should alcoholics have to wait six months for a new liver?
Wed Nov 9, 2011
If a drinker is not allowed a liver transplant, then would deny bypass surgery to a smoker or morbidly obese person? Would you deny treatment to a smoker who has breast cancer? How about no knee replacements for anyone with a BMI over 35? We could really cut down on health care costs if we apply …
Life-at-fertilization initiative has hope in Miss.
Mon Oct 17, 2011
MS has almost eliminated LEGAL abortions as it is (see Guttmacher Instittue data). However, the number of women reporting having had an abortion has remained pretty constant over the years.
Recession's second act would be worse than the first
Thu Sep 22, 2011
The GOP plan to increase jobs is to lay off about another 2.5 million people (I estimate 15,000 jobs per one Billion dollars). Makes sense to them.
